An impressive example of the vitality and the formal potential of silent cinema, the long-awaited second feature by Esteban Sapir is also welcome proof of the continuing attraction it has for contemporary film makers. Inspired by the cinema of Murnau and Lang, of Eisenstein and Vertov, La Antena is nevertheless a very modern film. Not only in the theme - monopolisation, consumerism, cultural dulling – is there talk of an update, also the form, the editing and the techniques used reveal that La Antena is a film of our own time.



The fairytale allegory continues to surprise from scene to scene with extensive, cleverly-made sets, beautiful use of words on screen and, not to forget, excellent acting. In a wintry metropolis in the year xxx, the mercilessly bad Mr TV rules. The whole city is without a voice and he has monopolised word and image. People watch TV and eat the TV meals produced by Mr TV. Mr TV is working on a sinister plan with a dangerous hypnotic machine that operates through the TV to ensure that all life will be subjected to him forever. To achieve this, he kidnaps the only one who still has The Voice - a stunningly beautiful singer. An inventor witnesses the kidnapping and flees with his family to an old broadcasting mast in an attempt to thwart approaching doom.









Había una vez una ciudad sin voz. Alguien se había llevado las voces de todos sus habitantes. Pasaron muchísimos años y a nadie parecía preocuparle el Silencio…



Con estas palabras comienza la nueva propuesta del director argentino Esteban Sapir, un arriesgado film diferente a las producciones mayoritarias, minucioso, experimental, cargado de crítica social y al que hay que reconocerle, además, el esforzado ejercicio cinéfilo de recuperación (en algunos momentos hasta el plagio) del cine expresionista de los primeros veinte años del pasado siglo.

Narrada a modo de cuento, sin apenas diálogos y filmada en riguroso blanco y negro, la película es una crítica a la excesiva influencia de los medios de comunicación, en especial la televisión, y al consumismo desaforado fruto de la propaganda mediática. El film nos transporta a una ciudad ficticia en la que siempre nieva, porque vive sumida bajo un crudo y permanente invierno. El cruel y perverso señor TV, dueño absoluto de todos los productos que se consumen y monopolizador de cada una de las imágenes que adornan esta ciudad, maquina un malvado plan para someter eternamente todas las almas que habitan el lugar y así preservar su poder: construir una peligrosa máquina que transmite hipnóticas imágenes a través de la pantalla del televisor para inducir al consumo compulsivo de productos de su sello. Pero la máquina funciona con la voz, y sólo queda una mujer que misteriosamente ha conservado el don del habla, a la que pretende someter chantajeándola con el secuestro de su hijo ciego, del que sospecha ha heredado el don de su madre. Telepolis

Dans un monde où la politique dirige les médias, la Télévision ne cesse d’émettre des programmes de masse pour contrôler l’Opinion Publique et guider la population. Obnubilé par les émissions de consommation le peuple se désintéresse de la politique. Mr Tele, chef des programmes et dictateur du régime, a pour solution finale d’hypnotiser les gens pour s’en assurer une dévotion totale. Au milieu de ce monde de désolation, où les habitants ont été privés de toute parole et ne communiquent plus entre eux, subsiste La Voix. Elle est l’unique rescapée de cette dictature qui possède encore la parole et représente le dernier espoir de faire basculer le régime.







Um impressionante exemplo da vitalidade e potencial do cinema mudo é o que nos traz o muito aguardado filme de Esteban Sapir. Inspirado pelo cinema de Murnau, Lang, Eisenstein e Vertov, La Antena é contudo um filme muito contemporâneo. Não só o tema (monopolização, consumismo, desinteresse pela cultura), mas também na forma. Numa cidade glacial no ano XXX, o implacável Mr. TV é o homem mais poderoso. Toda a cidade foi silenciada e ele monopoliza a palavra e a imagem, está também a engendrar um plano maquiavélico: quer construir uma máquina que através da televisão lhe permite manipular e dominar a vontade das pessoas. Para conseguir concretizar o seu plano ele rapta a única pessoa que ainda continua a ter A voz – uma talentosa e bonita cantora. Um inventor assiste ao rapto e foge com a família para uma velha antena de televisão, onde vai tentar destruir os planos de Mr.TV. Indielisboa 2007
