Director Joseph Losey brilliantly combines a story of adolescent thugs (led by Oliver Reed) mugging American MacDonald Carey with a disturbing science fiction story about the government raising radioactive children to populate the earth after the bomb drops. Beautifully shot, very well-written and well-acted by all concerned, this little-seen film is a classic of its kind.









Joseph Losey directed this unusual science fiction effort, which has won a small but fervent cult following. Simon Wells (MacDonald Carey) is an American visiting England, where he meets a woman named Joan (Shirley Ann Field). Simon is immediately attracted to Joan, but there's a considerable obstacle in their budding romance: Joan's brother King (Oliver Reed), the leader of a violent pack of motorcycle rockers. King has a barely concealed incestuous attachment to his sister, and he sometimes uses her to lure victims into his gang's clutches. King and his cronies attack Simon, take his money, and leave him stranded, where he's eventually found by a pair of military security men.Simon is brought to the home of Bernard (Alexander Knox), a scientist working on a secret project for the government, and his girlfriend Freya (Viveca Lindfors), a sculptor. Joan eventually tracks Simon down in hopes of winning his forgiveness, but another run-in with King causes Simon and Joan to discover a cave that holds a terrible secret: a group of strange, cold-blooded children who were the products of one of Bernard's experiments gone wrong. The children were genetically engineered to survive a nuclear war, and, as a result, they are radioactive enough to kill anyone who comes in close contact with them. Controversial in its day, The Damned was produced in England in 1961 but was not released until 1963, when Hammer Films booked it as the second-half of a double bill with Maniac. Los condenados

Un grupo de gente, en concreto un turista americano, una banda de pandilleros que lo acosan, una muchacha, hermana del líder de la banda, y que inicia un romance con el primero, y una escultora bohemia, descubren que bajo los riscos de un acantilado vive encerrado un grupo de niños con los cuales el ejército inglés realiza un experimento de supervivencia tras una hecatombe atómica.

Dans un petit port britannique de la côte sud, l'Américain Simon Wells est dévalisé par une bande de blousons noirs dirigés par King. La soeur de ce dernier, Joan, qui a servi d'appât, prend la défense de Wells et s'enfuit avec lui à bord de son petit yacht. Un peu plus tard, caché dans une maison sur la falaise, le couple est retrouvé par King et sa bande. En fuyant à nouveau, Joan et Simon tombent de la falaise et prennent pied dans une grotte où ils sont bientôt rejoints par King. Dans ce refuge vit une dizaine d'enfants étranges au corps glacé. En tentant de les ramener à l'air libre, les fugitifs se heurtent à un groupe de militaires sous les ordres du professeur Bernard... Irradiés de naissance, les enfants sont des Mutants, les premiers éléments d'une nouvelle espèce qui succédera à l'humanité après la guerre atomique imminente... Simon, Joan et King se rebellent contre cette expérience inhumaine et décident de la révéler au monde. En essayant de libérer les enfants, King est tué par les militaires. Simon et Joan parviennent à quitter la base secrète à bord du yacht. Mais, irradiés, ils sont condamnés à une mort inéluctable. Tandis que, dans les grottes, les enfants, à l'insu de tous, attendent leur règne...
