During WWII, beautiful and urbane nurse Eliska is part of a secret resistance movement with her lover, surgeon Richard Littner. When he is discovered, Eliska is forced to leave the hospital in order to hide from the Nazis. Her colleague Dr. Chladek sends her off with mountain man Joza, who had been a patient in the hospital. Under the name Hana, Eliska travels with Joza to the tiny Moravian village of Zelary. They live in a modest cabin for two years, waiting for the Nazi occupation to end. Based on true events.











“¡®Zelary¡¯ is the name of a small village located in the beautiful mountains of Moravia, and it's here that Elishka, (Anna Geislerova), spends most of World War II.

Under the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, Elishka was working as a nurse in a city hospital and having an affair with a doctor. They were part of a resistance group, but when the Germans get wise to them, Elishka is forced to flee in the company of a patient, Joska, who comes from that part of the country.”











“Because the villagers won't accept Elishka hiding in Joska's house unless they are married, she's reluctantly forced to go through a wedding ceremony with a man she hardly knows. At first, life in the mountains is a nightmare for the sophisticated Elishka; there's no electricity, nothing to do. But gradually she comes to like and admire the villagers, and to love Joska.



Based on the novella "Jozova Hanule" by Kveta Leg¨¢tov¨¢, this lengthy film from director Ondrej Trojan, was the Czech Republic's submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2003 and also scored well at film festivals.

Its very traditional movie making, but you warm to the film just as the heroine comes to embrace life in the village where she has reluctantly sought refuge.”

Eli?ka (Ana Geislerov¨¢), una estudiante de medicina, no puede completar sus estudios porque han cerrado las universidades y trabaja como enfermera en un hospital de la ciudad. La joven tambi¨¦n est¨¢ involucrada en el movimiento de la resistencia contra los nazis al igual que su novio, el cirujano Richard. Una noche, un hombre de las monta?as es tra¨ªdo al hospital con serias heridas, necesitando desesperadamente una transfusi¨®n. Eli?ka es la ¨²nica con su mismo tipo de sangre... una sangre que le salva la vida y forjar¨¢ una extraordinaria relaci¨®n entre la moderna, cosmopolita y educada Eli?ka y el rudo y b¨¢rbaro Joza, un hombre de campo con alma de ni?o.

Esta pel¨ªcula checoslovaca es una de esas que la deja a una gratamente impresionada. Las escenas tan bien montadas, la m¨²sica, los dialogos, los silencios, sobre todo los silencios. Es una pel¨ªcula para no olvidar. Para tener presente el totalitarismo. A pesar de tratar de la II Guerra Mundial y la invasi¨®n nazi y la posterior invasi¨®n Rusa Comunista no presenta fuertes elementos de la guerra, aunque se sienten profundamente. La protagonista, Hana o Eli?ka, genialmente interpretada por Ana Geislevor¨¢, presenta la fortaleza de una mujer opuesta a la invasi¨®n Nazi, a¨²n con su aparente fragilidad, resulta una sobreviente de esa terrible ¨¦poca. Por su parte, Joza interpretado por Gy?rgy Cserhalmi presenta una dulce y pura ingenuidad en su car¨¢cter. Realmente es una historia muy emotiva, y hermosa.
