In the recent history of French cinema,it has sadly been noted that the concept of films for families has vanished.If there is one film maker who has relentlessly pursued this theme in his films,it is René Féret whose films are a good portrayal of family life.Baptême is a family film which is not made these days.It is about the love of an entire life : love of a husband for his wife,love of a wife for her husband and love of the children for their parents.The dual concepts of happiness and sorrow have been nicely depicted in the form of family life and death.There is a concern for authenticity in Baptême as René Féret has portrayed an area which he know best:North of France. René Féret is one of the very few French filmmakers who have vividly portrayed North of France.This must be kept in mind when a spectator goes to see this film. (IMDB comment)

«Baptême» raconte l'amour de toute une vie... celui d'Aline et de Pierre qui se rencontrent en 1935 dans le café-tabac de la place de l'église d'Auchyles-mines. Pierre vient de Paris pour aider son frère André à vendre du beurre sur les marchés. Aline, la plus jolie fille du pays, rêve d'amour et d'aventure en chantant 'Tristesse de Chopin' au piano au milieu des mineurs dans le café de ses parents. Elle tombe amoureuse de Pierre, renonce au notaire qui voulait l'épouser et invente un stratagème pour déjouer le refus de ses parents. Au retour de leur voyage de noces en Corse, un des rêves d'Aline, dans la belle Citroën, cadeau merveilleux et inattendu offert par le père de Pierre disparu depuis vingt ans, Pierre s'essaye à de nombreux métiers. Il achète tous les véhicules possibles pour faire naître la joie et l'étonnement dans le regard d'Aline. Pour elle, il achète un autocar en 1936 et se lance dans les transports. Ils ont un enfant qu'Aline choisit de prénommer Rémi comme le petit garçon de 'Sans famille'. Mais Rémi, âgé de trois ans, meurt dans un accident...
