"In Quaderno di Strada, a roughly 45-minute cycle of miniatures for Baritone and Chamber Orchestra composed in 2003, Sciarrino takes us into his most intimate inner realm composed of tiny whirring gestures and nocturnal sounds, references to the obscure fleeting images of his Mediterranean landscape. Every time I listen to Sciarrino's music, I am spellbound, awe-struck, by his hazy impressions of light, colour, and fluctuating sounds. Quaderno di Strada is no exception: it is Sciarrino encapsulating the world around him - his world Umbria - through the writings of Rilke, Lotto, Kavafis, Brecht, Allesandria, Testori, Melotti, and Crei."
