Diva, c'est a la fois la decouverte d'un metteur en scene, Jean-Jacques Beineix, et la redecouverte d'un compositeur, Vladimir Cosma. Jusqu'alors exclusivement associe aux comedies d'Yves Robert, Gerard Oury ou Claude Zidi, le compositeur roumain fait alors voler en eclats son image et prouve l'etendue de sa palette expressive, guide par l'esthetique originale de ce "neo-polar". Sa partition s'articule notamment autour d'un arrangement de "la Wally" de Catalani et surtout de la "Promenade sentimentale", theme tres depouille, base sur deux accords, au piano solo. Le succes international de ce premier long-metrage de Beineix valut un cesar - son premier - au compositeur. "Avec la musique de Diva, reconnait aujourd'hui Cosma, les gens de cinema ont commence a me regarder differemment."
